Denise Van Dyke is originally from Rockford, Illinois and has been painting for more than 40 years. After graduating with a degree in Painting and Art Education from Northern Illinois University, she moved to New York City to pursue a career as an artist.
Continuing as a painter, Van Dyke went to the School of Visual Art, taking classes to become a graphic designer. For many years she worked for major advertising agencies and at Random House Publishing in New York.
Quite a bit of the work over the years has been abstract oil paintings and she considers herself an abstract artist. Since moving full-time to the Jersey Shore her work, although still abstract, is based on seeing and experiencing the beach and the ocean. These works are mainly concerned with color and the light at different times of the day. She also makes sculptures from found driftwood and glass beads and is currently working on a new series which pairs a painting along with the sculpture on which it is based.
Van Dyke has exhibited her work in New York City and in shows around the country. Her work is included in private and corporate collections nationwide including the Prudential Insurance Company of America, The CMC (California Marketing Center) in Los Angeles and other corporate offices in New Jersey.
Sandy Taylor
My imagery explores the environment, hope and memory, color and light. My paintings and mixed media works range from plein air as a sense of place, abstraction of surface and form, to collage and assemblage reflecting current environmental concerns.
Sensory impressions of color and light, and time and place recording the ebb and flow of nature become a metaphor for the transformation of the self.
During this past difficult year, I have painted outdoors in the same location to record the variety of light, color and clouds, thru the seasons and the weather and to find solace from nature. Looking forward to an open art world of creativity, community, and collaboration.
I have been selected for over 25 group exhibitions since 2002 and have had had two Solo shows:
“What Lies Beneath”, Artspace 66, Keyport, NJ, 2018
“Mindscapes”, Second Story Gallery, Atlantic Highands, NJ, 2015
And Curated shows:
“Juxtaposition”, four artists, Sandy Taylor, Denise VanDyke, Dawn Dicicco and Carol Magnatta, at The Gallery, Creative Arts Center, Thompson Park, Lincroft NJ, March 2020
