Belmar Barrier Mural Project
The town of Belmar has asked the Arts Council to help lift the spirits of our residents, especially those near the beachfront. For the foreseeable future, large cement "Jersey" barriers will be blocking access to Ocean Avenue at A street. There are about 14 of these barriers on 7th to 20th Avenues, and we'd like to make them look fun and upbeat.
Most of the barriers were assigned in the first six hours of the announcement of this project (on Wed. December 5th), so it seems this is very popular! You will find more information about the project here as we get underway.
Thanks to Belmar Paint & Decorating (511 Main St., Belmar) for donating 20 gallons of blue paint being used as undercoat on all barriers, as well as several dozen brushes! And thanks to all the volunteer artists who stepped forward to help raise the spirits of Belmar’s residents and visitors!
The BAC Boatworks building took water by the surge from superstorm Sandy. About 8-inches in the gallery and just a couple of inches in the rear. Everything was removed and a commercial cleaning team took over and cleaned up and sanitized the place (thanks to the Boro of Belmar!). But the floor took a hit and will need to be repainted. The walls will also need a fresh coat of paint.
As the building is turned back to us from being used as staging for donations and supplies, we will need to clean and paint to be ready for upcoming classes, workshops, art shows, and music performances. We will let you know when we have building access and have a plan and a dates for painting. Please consider helping!
