The Abstract Painting course introduces the student to the painting techniques and history of Abstract Art. The modules covers canvas preparation, basic color theory, visual theory, and approaches to painting abstract art. We will look at the style of several different abstract artists and students will begin to develop their own painting style in a studio setting. Personal expression is an important aspect to this course in addition to the emphasis on learning technique and skill. With demonstrations, and lectures, techniques for achieving a variety of effects will be presented. Color, composition and line will also be discussed throughout with a two-part approach of introducing students to various methods through demonstrations and studio time during the class.

About: Laurent Pipard has been a visual artist for more than 20 years. With studies in painting and sculpture, she has chosen to work with a variety of themes and styles. Currently she has focused on social issues as themes for her paintings but continues to enjoy painting abstracts and landscapes. Her current new venture is an online gallery, Frerre Fine Art and as an artists representative, hoping to advance the careers of promising others in the art world.
Her past endeavors include participation in several cooperative artists-run spaces in New York where she taught classes as a founder and participating resident artist, and here in Red Bank, New Jersey as a member of the Monmouth Art Alliance and the Monmouth County Arts Council. She is pleased to add the Belmar Arts Council as a new place to meet other artists and share in the artistic community in the area.
