Grassroots: A Student and Shared Interest Groups Show

Grass roots 1Belmar Arts is excited to present a new show “Grass Roots” that will showcase the creative explorations of Belmar Arts classes, workshops and shared interest groups! This non-juried show is a great way for artists of any 2014 class, workshop or shared interest group to display their work!

Online Submission: We are no longer accepting entries for this exhibition.
Receiving of work: Saturday, September 27, 2014 — 10 am – 1 pm
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 4, 2014 — 5 pm – 7 pm
Exhibit dates: Saturday, October 4 – Friday, November 7, 2014
Pick-up work: Saturday, November 8, 2014 — 10 am – 1 pm

Entry fee: Members $10, Nonmembers $15 each piece. Max 1 piece per artist per shared interest group, workshop or class. If enrolled in more than one class, workshop or shared interest group in 2014, then 1 piece per class, workshop or shared interest group with applicable fees paid is permitted. Please indicate which class, workshop or shared interest group you are submitting for on the entry form.

Entry Rules:
Artist Eligibility: Participants, age 13 and over, must be members of a Belmar Arts Council (BAC) shared interest group or 2014 student of a BAC workshop or class. Submissions may include published writing or written works in progress; photography; portfolio pieces; hand-made prints; fabric/fiber work; drawings or paintings from model sessions, etc.
All works entered must be original creations by the artist during 2014, not previously exhibited at the Belmar Arts Council.

Visual arts:
Entries will be submitted online as jpegs at beginning on August 23, 2014.
Digital Image Specifications for Visual Arts:
Image files should be at 100 dpi at roughly 7” on the longest dimension, with a total file size of no larger than 1 MB. Your .jpeg should include only the image of your artwork, exclusive of mats and frames.
Please label jpegs as follows:

If you are submitting three-dimensional work, you may upload two or three images of your entry showing the work from more than one angle. In that case, label work as follows:

Non-Visual Arts:
Members of our writing groups are urged to submit a short (30 seconds or less) audio or video file of an excerpt from a non-visual work, such as a short story, poem or novel. These files are extremely useful to us as examples for our grants. Because the web site is not yet able to accommodate this kind of submission, please email your file as an attachment to Word documnets or .PDF files can be uploaded with your entry form. All electronic submissions must be submitted by September 23. You can record a video or voice memo on your smart phone, but if you do not know how to do this or don’t have access to a smart phone, we will be glad help you by appointment. Call 732-749-3360 or email to schedule an appointment before entry deadline of 9/23.
All submitted work must be physically delivered to the BAC, 608 River Road, on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 10 am to 1 pm.

Conditions and artist instructions:

  • Work need not be framed or matted, but think about how you will display your work on a wall. We understand some work will be “in progress”.
  • Maximum size for two-dimensional work is 48” in any direction.
  • Framed two-dimensional pieces over 36 inches in any direction normally displayed under glass must have Plexiglas instead of glass.
  • 25 lb. maximum weight for work intended to be hung on the walls.
  • Three-dimensional work is limited to 60 lb. For free-standing work, pedestals must be provided by the artist.

Work delivered to the Boatworks must be the same pieces for which jpegs were submitted. No Substitutions. Entered pieces are committed for the duration of the show.

Work must be hand-delivered to the Boatworks. The BAC is not equipped to receive or return parcels sent by mail or delivery service.


This show is non-juried but acceptance into show is not guaranteed. All entries must meet the conditions outlined by the show committee. Unless you are notified by the show committee by email that your entry does not qualify for this exhibit, please prepare your work for intake on 9/27 from 10am-1pm. No acceptance notices are sent.
Art sold is subject to a 30% commission fee for members, 40% for non-members. If not for sale, put NFS clearly on form and label. Sales tax will be added to the price of work sold. Remittance of NJ Sales Tax will be handled by Belmar Arts Council.

Liability disclaimer
The BAC will make every effort to treat your artwork with care. However, work is submitted at the artist’s risk. BAC and the Art Show Committee will not be held liable for lost or damaged work. Artists are responsible for insuring their work from delivery to pick-up.

Media/Press release
BAC reserves the right to use digital images of accepted and exhibited artworks for the sole purpose of media and website PR and advertising.

Late Pick-up Penalty
Work must be picked up on the day and time advertised. A $1/day fee will be charged per piece left after the time of pickup. If you cannot pick up your work during the advertised time, you must arrange for a friend to pick it up. Work left beyond two weeks after the advertised pick-up date will be considered abandoned. Abandoned work will become the property of the Belmar Arts Council and may be sold at auction to benefit the BAC.
