Theme and Description
The shoreline is a place of beauty, transition, and life, where land, water, and sky converge—a place of constant movement, shifting tides, and breathtaking beauty. "Nature at the Shore" invites artists to explore and interpret the unique ecosystems of coastal regions, focusing on native plants and local wildlife, to capture the diverse and ever-changing essence of coastal environments. From the serenity of a quiet beach at sunrise to the raw power of crashing waves, this exhibition explores the rich landscapes, wildlife, and ecosystems found along the shore; the delicate dance of grasses in the wind to the vibrant life of shorebirds, butterflies, and bees, this exhibition seeks to highlight the resilience and renewal of these environments. Coastal landscapes are ever-changing, yet they persist—adapting, thriving, and reminding us of nature’s incredible ability to endure and flourish.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly, considering:
- Seascapes & Landscapes – Rolling dunes with their vegetation, rocky cliffs with visitors, tidal pools, and vast ocean horizons.
- Birds & Pollinators - Birds or squirrels in trees, bees on flowers, caterpillars and butterflies on their host or feeding plant sources
- Weather & Light – The drama of a storm, the golden glow of sunset, or the ethereal mist of early morning.
- Human Connection to the Shore – Fishing traditions, shelling, surfing, seaside communities, or the tranquility of walking barefoot in the sand.
