Juror: Susan Daboll
I would like to thank all of the artists who submitted work to the on-line JAS/17-2021 exhibition sponsored by the Belmar Arts Center. It was very exciting to have such an extensive range of work to choose from. And, it was especially gratifying to see that despite the circumstances which have surrounded us this past year, the impulse to make art remains strong.
As a juror, I am choosing work through the lens of my unique and subjective experience, which encompasses years of looking at and making art. While the exhibition necessitates choosing, I would encourage all of you to continue to work and submit work to juried exhibitions. As written by Amanda Gorman, "Being an artist is about how and why you touch people's lives, even if it's only one person. Even if that's yourself, in the process of art-making."
