EQUINOX
March 16 to April 16, 2022
March 16 to April 16, 2022
THEME AND DESCRIPTION
Emergence Rebirth Equality Awakening Celebration Balance
The Vernal Equinox marks the first day of spring across the Northern Hemisphere. There is an awakening with both celebrations and relief, a sense of renewal as the daylight grows longer and banishes the dark. It is a time to sow seeds, clean out the debris of winter, and believe in the unseen powers that bring forth new life. It’s no wonder we rejoice with the increase in sunlight and all the evidence of our awakening world. This is an exhibit to celebrate light, spring, and renewal and is open to all interpretations of these ideas.
Equinox is derived from the Latin aequinoctium, from aequus (equal) and nox (night). On the day of an equinox, daytime and nighttime are of approximately equal duration all over the planet. The Equinox itself is a moment--a Stillpoint, the moment at which the center of the visible Sun is directly above the equator. That moment of perfect balance stands between the energies of Winter and the shift into Spring.
The 2022 Equinox was March 20th and Easter was April 4. These two events share themes of renewal and rebirth, a sense that the world is being reborn or is recovering from darker days. The opening reception featured a Spring Equinox ceremony.
