“Sun Records Artists of the 50s & 60s and The Holidays” is the theme for the open mic, which means you should do at least TWO songs that have to do with the theme, plus one more song (cover or original). Dylan would like to honor the wonderful artists and songs that came out of Sun Records in Memphis.
There’s a little spin on the theme this time because it’s that time of year. What we’re going to do is let you do the theme songs of your choice, but we’re also including holiday songs within our theme. So, you can do Jerry Lee Lewis for one song and then sing, “All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth” for the second theme song (or just stick to the Sun Records artists theme) - whatever makes you happy. You decide on three good songs and we'll listen. Just keep it at 12 minutes or under!
There will be a grand finale song, “Ring of Fire” by the Johnny Cash for everyone to share at the end of the event. Support for other performers is a priority for MOAM, so please show up early and stay late to sing the finale with everyone.
Video with lyrics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfCOJLRk2D4
Admission is $5 donation at the door or $3 with two non-perishable food donations. Proceeds to benefit FULFILL, formerly known as the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and the Belmar Arts Center. http://fulfillnj.org/
Sign-ups for this event will be done online. The link for the sign-up will be posted on the Musicians on a Mission Facebook event page a week before the open mic. Be on the lookout for it! https://www.facebook.com/musiciansonamission
You do NOT need to be a member of MOAM to sign up for this open mic. However, we offer sign-ups online to our MOAM members first. If you would like to become a MOAM member, go to: www.musiciansonamission.org to sign up. It’s only $20 a year and you would be helping MOAM make a difference through music.
Fresh coffee, soda, water and snacks will be available for a minimal charge at the show or bring something for yourself.

Mark Henleys Crowdwork Christmas Friday December 8th 8pm Admission $5.00 in advance $7.00 at the door |
Come hang out at the Belmar Arts Council for a new show called Crowdwork Christmas; hosted by a Jew who loves the holiday! Join NYC stand-up comedian, Mark Henely, in his journey to spread joy, goodwill towards men, and experimental stand up comedy.
But, Crowdwork Christmas is not just about spreading holiday cheer, it is also an immersive stand up comedy experience. Many stand up comedians go on stage with a rigid set list. Mark has always felt the vibe and energy of the crowd and allowed that energy to naturally dictate the progression of the show. This show will be the next step in that progression where the audience will literally be able to pick which part of the show comes next! It will be a live, in person Holiday “Choose Your Own Adventure” show!"
Mark began his journey as a Christmas Performer back in 2021 when he self-produced a Christmas special called “MXRRX CHRXSTMXS, BXG DXG” (the kids sometimes replace vowels with Xs on the internet) The special was cozy intimate night filmed in his friend’s living room. It managed to be funny while also capturing the warmth of the holiday season. He continued the tradition with “MXRXX CHRXSTMXS, BXG DXG 2” which filmed at a grungy punk venue in New Jersey, which captured the grittier side of the holiday. Finally, he brought his show to Edinburgh, Scotland for the Fringe Festival, where he performed the show 25 times!
As a stand-up comedian, Mark is very accomplished. He has performed in some of America’s top comedy clubs like The Stand NYC, Indianapolis Helium, TeeHee’s in Des Moines, the Stress Factory, and more. Mark is also an accomplished Roast Battler who is featured weekly on Comedy Fight Club and is the 2021 CFC King of New Jersey."

So . . . What are YOU doing New Year's Eve-EVE?
The Roaring Twenty-Twenties New Year's Eve-Eve Dance-A-Thon Saturday December 30th • 8pm Tickets: $10 Advance / $15 At Door Swing on by the Belmar Arts Center for an evening of multi-media mayhem, featuring DJ Purple Stuff [aka Kevin Spyker] spinning Electro-Swing, Funky Disco and Deep House, along with a live loop improv set by BAC Music Director Matthew Trice. We'll merge the sounds and scenery from a century ago, screening cinematic visuals overhead with classic films like 'Metropolis' and 'A Trip to the Moon'. . . These mesmerizing works hail from the dawn of the motion picture era, amidst world war, prohibition, flappers and bootleggers, stock market booms and busts -- all fueled by rapid industrialization! Considered to be the launch of Sci-Fi, these movies express visions of our bold tech-driven future, blurring the lines between Man and Machine . . . Utopia and Dystopia . . . Opulence and Decadence . . . 100 years later, we can see the little bits of history repeating, so perhaps the best solution still remains the same: Cut loose and dance away the troubles of the day! Creative attire encouraged -- think Future Flappers and Mobsters from Mars in our Space-Age Speakeasy at Belmar Arts ;) |
